Well the first new babies of 2013 have arrived, 20 tiny little chicks from Murray McMurray hatchery came to my post office this morning.  I ordered Buff Orpingtons, Golden and Silver laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, and Cuckoo Marans. They all were looking lively and happy so that was a relief!  My sister had ordered a few meat chicks to raise for her family to eat and they were market with red on their head to identifiy them, we called them Bullseye babies.  LOL  Apparently it is common practice for them to add a couple extra chicks just in case one doesn't make the journey and so after rushing around this morning we got back in the car and my oldest daughter asked why we still had a bullseye chicky.  A call to my sister confirmed I counted right and dropped off what she had ordered so she got an extra, and he is living with my tiny pullets at the moment until I get back over there to drop him off lol.
It looks like my Olde English babydoll ewe, Gladiola will lamb soon.  I am nervous as this will be the first lamb on the farm.  I pray all goes well with mom and baby and look forward to falling in love with it!  I'll post pics on the facebook page to keep you all updated of the chicks growth, and the hopeful arrival of lambs.  So far I've had great luck, being the Grand Prize winner of three Maran chicks from Rise N Shine Farm, they should be here in a few weeks, I can't wait!
Keep safe and warm every one, spring is right around the corner...they say :)
